My name is George Boardley and I am one of the two interns working for The Global Edge Consultants this summer.
This is my first Internship experience so when I got here I thought that most of my time would be spent either fetching people coffee, filing endless stacks of paperwork, or taxiing people around from meeting to meeting. I now know that the stereotypical view of an Internship that we all see on TV is not remotely true.
One of the first things we did after we arrived was go on a tour of the office and meet all of the employees. Each employee really expressed the warm welcoming feeling that this company is known for. Following our introductions and tour, we sat in meetings with our supervisor and manager to learn the ropes of what this job requires. This included learning how to use the database and how to navigate through the job search boards and find the qualified candidates for clients and our open positions. The main focus of our first week here was mostly to get an strong understanding of how everything works and ask questions if we didn’t understand anything.
One of the biggest things I have learned so far is the overall background of the Oil and Gas business, including all the companies and how they operate. I also gained an undestanding of the differences between Upstream, Midstream and Downstream sectors within the Oil and Gas industry. I have only been living the “Intern Life” for a week, but I have learned far more than I ever thought I would. I am definitely looking forward to my remaining time here as an Intern at The Global Edge Consultants.
