The Global Edge named 33rd Fastest-Growing Woman Owned Business by WPO

The Global Edge is delighted to add another award to our ever-growing collection.

On May 1st our company was listed 33rd out of 50 fastest-growing woman owned businesses by the Women Presidents Organization. The announcement was made during the 18th Annual Women’s Presidents’ Organization (WPO) Conference held in Phoenix, AZ.

The conference featured interactive seminars and speakers as well as opportunities to exchange business strategies and experiences with women leaders from across the globe.

The Global Edge made the cut after being selected from a pool of 600 applicants in all. A CPA was assigned to review these applications with a fine-toothed comb and our company passed the test!

This award would not have been possible without the leadership of our CEO, Kathy Eberwein. Her hard work day in and day out has helped The Global Edge grow leaps and bounds over the past seven years.

Special thanks to Amy Richardson, our North America Business Manager, for collecting the award on Kathy’s behalf. Thanks also go to Sahira Balouch, our Immigration and Mobilization Specialist, for taking the time to send in the application for us.

PHenomenal Hope: 2015 Woodlands CrawPHish Festival

Sunshine, crawfish, and music were on the menu at The Woodlands CrawPHish festival held in March.

CrawPHish is spelled with a PH to bring attention to pulmonary hypertension and the efforts to find better treatments and a possible cure. The event was hosted by the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, an organization close to the heart of The Global Edge and its employees and clients.

Over 4000 people attended this event, which featured country and zydeco musicians, catered Cajun and BBQ meals, and plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy.

The PHA booth had one activity that stood out called the Straw Test. A person takes a straw and breathes through it for 30 seconds while pinching their nose at the same time. It demonstrates to the average person the toll PH can take on a person’s body when they are just trying to breathe.

The Global Edge was proud to host a tent for employees, clients, and contractors alike to enjoy cold drinks, good food, and better company.

“We cannot be more pleased with this year’s event which has brought so much awareness to Pulmonary Hypertension. The weather was gorgeous, the food delicious and the music awesome,” said Meredith Sharp, PHA Lone Star Director of Development. “This community has truly come together in day of family fun in order to support such an important cause.“

Chinese New Year Fun at The Global Edge!

The Global Edge recently celebrated Chinese New Year 2015, Year of the Goat, for our Anadarko contractors.

The Global Edge celebrated with a fantastic feast of Chinese Food, which included General Tso’s Chicken, Broccoli Beef, Chicken Lo Mein, Wonton Soup and egg rolls and finally custom made fortune cookies too! A great time was had by all!

Chinese New Year is the most important holiday for the Chinese. Chinese New Year is the first day for the first month in the traditional Chinese calendar, which is based on a Chinese lunisolar calendar – the dates indicate both the moon phase and the time of the solar year. As opposed to the world’s different countries, which arrive at midnight on New Year’s Eve on January 1. Times can vary by time zones.

The celebration normally starts from the New Year’s Eve and lasts for around fifteen days until the middle of the first month. Chinese New Year is a time for family reunion, which is the most important part of the celebration. Families will visit, watch traditional shows, launch fireworks and plan for the year ahead. In China, people take weeks of holiday from work to prepare and celebrate the New Year.

A few traditions are fireworks and family feasts to The Lantern Festival and Lucky Money given in red envelopes. For the Chinese, the color red symbolizes fire and according to legend, can drive bad luck away!

From all of us here at The Global Edge Consultants, Happy Chinese New Year!

Global Edge Gives Back: DePelchin Children’s Center

The Global Edge recently raised money and accepted unwrapped toy donations for DePelchin Children’s Center as part of our annual Christmas celebration.

We are thrilled to announce that over $600 was raised through a combination of cash and toy donations!

DePelchin Children’s Center is the leading center in Texas that focuses on the well-being of children. Mental health services, foster care, and adoptions are just a few of the services provided.

DePelchin is based in Houston with locations all around the city. The Global Edge’s donations went to the location in The Woodlands and the staff was very appreciative. Not only will the toys and cash help kids in The Woodlands and surrounding areas, but this saves the staff from having to make trips down to the main campus in Houston to pick up donations.

The Global Edge is proud to serve our community and give back to those in need during the holiday season. Thank you to everyone who made a donation!

For more information on how you can help DePelchin Children’s Center, please visit their website.

The Global Edge supports PH Awareness Month

The mission of The Global Edge has always been to leave a global footprint, both professionally and philanthropically.

While we continue to work on expanding our company’s efforts across the globe, we have been working in our US offices to support local charities here.

One cause near to The Global Edge is supporting the mission of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) in battling Pulmonary Hypertension, a disease that has affected family members of multiple employees and clients. PH is a rare disease that affects people of all ages, backgrounds, and races. This chronic disease is characterized by high blood pressure in the lungs that can lead to heart failure.

While there currently is no cure for PH, PHA is working diligently on funding research for a cure, advocacy, awareness, education and support for the PH community.

November is PH Awareness Month, and several members of The Global Edge helped out with the Aggie-Tiger Maroon & Purple Shootout held at the beautiful Golf Club of Houston in Humble on Friday, November 21. Though the weather was inopportune, our staff volunteers braved the rain and winds to help the tournament go off smoothly. Thank you to all of the players, donors and volunteers for supporting this great organization.

Future events for PHA in Houston include the annual Woodlands CrawPHish Festival in March and 02 Breathe Gala in October. Please contact a member of The Global Edge if you would like to volunteer for either of these events or attend, or visit www.phassociation.org for events and opportunities to volunteer globally.

A Global Edge Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is just around the corner here in the U.S., and The Global Edge decided to get the celebration started early with a delicious Thanksgiving potluck meal.

Everyone in the Houston office brought food to feed the whole office and then some, not only for lunch but for breakfast, too.

We enjoyed food ranging from a delicious kale and cranberry salad to a donut (or two!) from Shipley’s.

We all loved and appreciated the food that our colleagues took the time to make, and enjoyed some good conversation and laughs in our conference room as well.

Thanksgiving is a time for family and friends, and our Global Edge family is certainly no different.

From all of us here at The Global Edge Consultants, we want to wish you and yours a very happy Thanksgiving!

Meet The Global Edge Fab Five!

Picture it now: backdrop, 1960’s black and white TV in the background and the immortal voice of Ed Sullivan as he is introducing a little known group soon to become a worldwide sensation. “We have a really big show tonight. Ladies and Gentlemen…The Beatles!

Well, in my best Ed Sullivan impersonation let me introduce our own British Invasion. “All the way from the U.K.….Ladies and Gentleman, the ‘Fab Five!’”

Now, if only I could embed a recording of The Beatles “I Wanna Hold Your Hand,” just as you read my intro! So without further ado, let me introduce you to the story and the team* of The Global Edge Consultants, U.K.

In January of 2013, The Global Edge opened its doors in the U.K. ready to conquer Europe as we had done in Asia! However, conquest of any kind is never easy. In the U.K., where the market is one of the most difficult to break into, there were struggles and hurdles of all kinds to overcome.

Through all of this, there has always been a constant, the young posh Englishman with a heart of gold but a “failure is not an option” attitude, our Ringo Starr, who just keeps drumming no matter what is going on…Alex Purvis!

Though Alex is only a few years into the Oil/Gas staffing industry, he has grown up in the Oil/Gas industry living both in the U.S. and abroad. Alex has begun to hone his skills in Account Management, racking up victories at an impressive rate. That is, when he is not trying to match wits with vastly superior opposition!

But, every great group or team needs a strong manager with industry experience and a vision! Enter John O’Neill or the “Brian Epstein” (The Beatles manager) of the team. This greying father of three who also doubles as rabid Celtic Football (soccer) fan is a leader in Technical Recruitment world with specialties in EPC and Drilling. John joined the Global Edge in November of 2013 and put together what we at the Global Edge call the “Fab Five.”

As John Lennon and Paul McCartney were both collaborators and competitors in the group, so are Alan Marshall (Lennon) and Steven “Stevie” Kane (McCartney). Alan, who is a father of 2 and a devout Rangers Football (soccer) fan, came to the Global Edge with 7 years of recruitment experience and in the past few years has focused on Drilling, Marine, Subsea and EPC markets. Stevie also came to the Global Edge with 7 years’ recruitment experience in Construction, Oil & Gas and Engineering after a career in the construction industry as a “joiner.” Alan and Stevie have a history of competing against each other while with other companies, and in 2014 came to the Global Edge to work together for the first time. They have brought that competitive spirt with them and continue to try to outdo the other in recruiting and business development.

Now, every team needs their wildcard George Harrison type, and the U.K. Team has that in Maciej Siembiga. Maciej’s recruiting background includes both IT and Financial, but his focus in the Oil & Gas market. Drilling and subsea is where he has made his name, especially in the difficult to fill roles leaving no stone unturned. When Maciej is not playing Sherlock Holmes, he is either dancing it up with a bit of a salsa flair or showing off his Brazilian Martial Arts moves to the office.

Who keeps all of this talent and feistiness in check and supports this bunch, you may ask? Well that job goes to incredible Kirsten Thomson, who wears a number of hats and apparently has a penchant for “dodgy parties.” I haven’t included her in the Fab Five for three reasons! Firstly, it would be odd to have six people in a team called the Fab Five, secondly, those of us in the Houston, TX office claim her as our own as she travels to the U.S. regularly, and lastly and most important, she is beyond fab and flat out awesome!

From our company’s humble beginnings of a two man office in London, England in January of 2013, the Global Edge has rapidly begun to penetrate the U.K. and Middle Eastern markets and in February of 2014, we opened our second U.K. office in Glasgow, Scotland. This expansion has allowed the Global Edge to not only service our clients in Scotland, it has put a stamp on the our U.K. brand and allowed us to add many more new clients as well as team up and support The Global Edge South African and Asian teams. The plan forward is to continue to capture a share of the Upstream Market including Exploration, Drilling, EPC and Oilfield Services.

The Global Edge “Fab Five” have done an amazing job in a short time, but wait until you see their next hit! It’s bound to make us all “Twist and Shout!”

Global Edge Group makes a splash at AACE Annual Meeting

The Global Edge Consultants was in attendance at the June 2014 AACE International Annual Meeting held in the magnificent city of New Orleans, Louisiana!

The AACE is a non-profit professional educational association founded in 1956 and is the largest global organization serving the entire spectrum of cost management professions. The Annual Meeting is an opportunity for all AACE Chapter members to share the latest knowledge on Cost Engineering practices, procedures, software, and skills. This getaway also provides a great opportunity for new friends to be made; old friends to catch up and new business to be developed.

The Global Edge was a welcome sight to its attendees with bright colours, fun prizes and most importantly providing a glimpse of what our full-service recruitment company can do for ALL of them. With our recruiting services available nationwide and internationally, we had the ability to “connect” with people from all over the world and learn something from each of them. To say the least, many attendees were very eager to exchange business cards. Our striking booth caught the eye of most all attendees, and presented The Global Edge with the opportunity to establish ourselves as a leader in the Oil & Gas recruiting industry and more specifically across the Project Controls discipline.

Many attendees were very impressed and pleased to learn The Global Edge won the 2013 Oil and Gas Awards Recruitment Agency of the Year.

The invitation The Global Edge has received to attend the Annual AACE Conference, not only impacts us a company, but enables us to establish new relationships with leading companies and their needs.  This event also allows us to find out what candidates are looking for in their career growth, while giving us the opportunity to make a personal difference in people’s lives.

It was a great event!  We made many new friends, many new connections, and had a blast!

Onward to another successful year, new challenges, and MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

Doing the right thing: Business ethics and The Global Edge

“Business ethics can be thought of as written and unwritten codes of principles and values that govern decisions and actions within a company.  In the business world, the organization’s culture sets standards for determining the difference between good and bad decision-making and behavior.  In the most basic terms, a definition for business ethics boils down to knowing the difference between right and wrong and choosing to do what is right.  The phrase ‘business ethics’ can be used to describe the actions of individuals within an organization or the organization as a whole.”

-excerpt from “Boundless – Corporate Ethics”

The Global Edge grows and continues posting exponential growth due the strong foundation based on unwavering ethics and the principle of consistently doing the right thing.  Kathy Eberwein, Managing Director, hosted a segment on the topic during an all-US staff meeting at The Global Edge headquarters in The Woodlands, TX at the end of April.

With the organization’s growth trajectory and expectations for revenue, office and employee expansion, an opportune time to review the corporate values woven into the framework of The Global Edge’s business operation.

The interaction left me invigorated. Led and surrounded by an exceptionally talented team of recruiting and business professionals, the employees of The Global Edge share the passion for delivering excellence to our clients and candidates alike.  Our overriding philosophy and commitment to honest, respectful, fair and high integrity searches is paramount to every client and candidate interaction.

I am proud to be a part of the organization and welcome the opportunity to re-state the foundation of “doing the right thing” as the core philosophy of trust and transparency in all business transactions at The Global Edge.
