Plasma-pulse technology and the future of oil and gas recruiting

It is well known that our primary and secondary production methods allow us to recover 25 to 50 % of our known resources.

Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) makes it possible to produce up to 90% of the original oil in the reservoir remaining after standard production methods fail to extract more oil utilizing a broad spectrum of techniques.

Although simpler methodologies developed about fifty years ago, enhanced oil recovery techniques have gone through tremendous changes within the last 5-10 years. An interesting development which caught my attention in 2013 was a new way of EOR named “Plasma-Pulse Technology or PPT” which is invented at the St. Petersburg State Mining University.

Plasma-Pulse Technology works without any chemicals and therefore is deemed to be environmentally friendly. The treatment is created to clear the well drainage area of sedimentation clogging at the perforation zone and increase the permeability of the reservoir at the same time. This technology reminds me of the many science fiction movies in which they suggested to use this technology with futuristic weapons.
These rapidly developments in our industry will mean a need for specialized consultants.

Here at The Global Edge Consultants, we are constantly improving our recruitment skills to find the people with specific requirements. The technology developments in our industry will require people with specific skills. To guarantee our quality of services and knowhow about the developments within the international oil and gas industry, The Global Edge Consultants is constantly updating ourselves by sharing this kind of information as well as attending exhibitions and presentations about new technologies. We believe that besides good communication skills, a certain technical knowhow, and project understanding is a key to success in our industry. In this way we are able to provide top quality services for both clients and consultants.

Why you should hire ex-military personnel for oil and gas jobs

In today’s military and civil service, engineering personnel come equipped with training details and are backed up with many years of invaluable technical and engineering experience which can transfer to the oil and gas industries.

In my recent experience, most placements are seamless for the right ex-military candidate seeking a new civilian career.

Something to think about when considering ex-military personnel is not only the training that is ingrained into them from day one, but also training in the art of learning to complete tasks and problem solve on their own.

Global oil and gas is booming now, and with insufficient contractors to meet new field requirements, some companies are having trouble meeting engineering staffing requirements. The Global Edge Consultants invites you to consider ex-military candidates for your current projects.

If you’re in a position to hire military veterans, you need to do it quickly and you don’t want to pay high recruiting fees. With 25 million veterans and 200,000 leaving active duty every year, you need to sort through all the sources and find the right candidate. Let The Global Edge Consultants help you fill your staffing needs today.

In booming oil/gas markets, taking care of employees is key

This is the busiest oil/gas market most people have ever seen in their lives.

Almost every oil/gas/petrochemical/LNG company in the world is currently looking to hire candidates. The current market is definitely a candidate/employee market vs. a company/client market. When this takes place in the marketplace, rates/salaries are increased and companies have to increase bonuses, vacations, etc. to entice employees to work for their company.

In this type of market, the larger companies or the companies with the best salaries/compensation packages usually win out.  It is good most of the time to pay an employee a little more and give them strong benefits to keep them with a company.

I have seen in the past when you try to negotiate down a salary for a candidate, the candidate may take the salary at first. However, the first time a competitor jumps in with a higher rate, the candidate will accept that offer and will not feel any remorse to the company that negotiated down their salary in the first place.  Strong companies pay for strong employees, and companies that undercut employees may win in the short-term, but will lose in the long run.

The battle between experience and potential

When selecting a candidate, which is more important: potential or experience?

How would you respond to this question?

While both weigh in with great importance, you may be surprised to discover which one tips the scales.

It can be hard to choose between a candidate's experience and the potential they display, but choosing one is essential.

Experience:

Hiring a candidate with a certain skill or experience tells us they have an ample level of expertise which has been acquired over months or years of practice. Candidates with adequate experience can bring great value to an organization.

Potential:

Potential means “having or showing the capacity to become or develop into something great in the future.” If a candidate displays potential but lacks certain experience, they may be considered high risk and passed over by certain employers.

Candidates who display strong potential have been known to achieve greater success and do so with above-average performance. How can you quickly spot a candidate with potential? They won’t be easily located if you are merely checking off boxes of skill level and experience. They will, however, have a proven track record and display a pattern consistent of an overachiever.

Signs of an overachiever:

  • They do more with less by learning what is needed to reach the goal.
  • A person who has accomplished the most with lesser skills and experience.
  • They have achieved many rewards, raises, special bonuses, kudos, awards and recognition
  • A continuous track record of excellent performance while facing challenging situations.
  • Someone who will get great results regardless of the circumstances.
  • They were referred, rehired or recruited instead of applying for a job at their previous employment
  • A person who is committed to delivering quality results and working to consistently improve.
  • They are consistently in the top 20-25% of whatever they do

It’s not difficult to see the value in overachievers, even if they don’t have a lot of experience.

Food for thought: Experience tells you there’s a right way to do something. It’s important to ensure the right way is the best way.
